ABOUT US
The idea for 山ILD is to unite people from different cultural backgrounds together, keeping in mind the one thing we all have a passion for: the mountains.
We strive to continue the support of positive changes and leaders in our snow
sports industry. The mountains are our playground and where we will continue our pursuit of happiness.
"It is good to take to the mountain when we don't know what else to do. It informs us about what to do next. Where can we find this process that will free us? On the mountain."
OUR STORY
WHAT DOES 山ILD MEAN?
山 = is Japanese kanji word pronounced, yama. In English yama translates to mountain. 山 also looks like our English letter “W” hence how 山ILD was created.
After visiting Japan for the first time in 2014, I wanted a way to connect my love for all things Japan with my passion for skiing. This is when 山ILD was born. I decided to head back to Hokkaido again in 2015 and lived like a native there for almost a year, working in the winter as a filmer for a Japanese snowboarding crew - STONP. After receiving such positive responses from Japanese people about 山ILD, I decided to expand more. What I have personally noticed about the 山ILD logo and name is that it is actually a conversation starter, which gets you talking with people you might not go out of your way to talk to. My goal is for people from different countries to unite even if there is a language barrier.
